Did you know that you can do a one-day excursion from San Miguel de Allende to the monarch butterfly sanctuaries? Check out this video of our experience visiting the Sierra Chincua Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary.
There are many sanctuaries located approximately 3-4 hours away from San Miguel. We chose Sierra Chincua, which is approximately 3.5 hours away. This was perfect for our one-day getaway. We left Antigua Capilla boutique Bed and Breakfast at 7:30am and arrived at the monarch butterfly sanctuary at 11AM. This was the perfect time to arrive, as the butterflies do not become active until the sun hits them. The hike from the entrance to the monarchs was about half an hour. We were allowed to spend approximately half an hour at the site, and what an incredible time that was! If you are planning a stay of 4-or-more-nights in San Miguel de Allende, this trip is something you should add to your list of activities. You can rent a car and do it on your own, or, if you prefer to leave the driving to others, we can help you arrange for a private driver. You can visit the monarch butterflies from mid-November until mid- March, the months that the butterflies overwinter in Mexico. If you want to make San Miguel de Allende your home base during your trip to central Mexico and are looking for accommodations, consider staying with us! Check out our rooms here. We have a boutique bed and breakfast in San Miguel de Allende that we know you will enjoy. See you soon! Comments are closed.
