Greetings, fellow travelers! Today, we're thrilled to share the exhilarating experience of soaring high above the ancient city of Teotihuacan in our latest YouTube video, "Hot Air Ballooning Over Teotihuacan: Up, Up, and Away." Join us as we take you on a virtual journey through the skies, capturing the magic of this historic Mexican site from a unique perspective. Our adventure began with the anticipation building an hour before our assigned take-off time. As we registered, signed waivers (not filmed, for obvious reasons), and skipped the offered coffee to avoid mid-air bathroom dilemmas, the excitement in the air was palpable. The bustling scene of balloons inflation around us felt like we were about to grow wings and embark on a magical journey. The moment arrived, and we hopped into the basket, ready to take off for our epic trip over Teotihuacan. The sunrise painted the landscape with a red glow as we floated over the fields. Our fellow passengers, representing countries like Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Costa Rica, added a diverse and special touch to the experience. Approaching the pyramid complex, we found ourselves surrounded by other balloons, creating a surreal and awe-inspiring view. The contrasting play of the sun's glow and misty fog behind the pyramid was a visual spectacle, with the shadows of the balloons on the pyramid's side adding a touch of magic to the journey. While the landing was a bit rough, clipping a tree and overshooting the soccer field, it added an adventurous twist to the experience. Unfortunately, we didn't capture the landing on film as the pilot instructed us to crouch down, but somehow we ended up on the trailer, ready for a celebratory cup of bubbly. After a half-hour journey back to home base, we enjoyed a traditional breakfast, reminiscing about the incredible adventure we just had. It's truly amazing how a hot air balloon ride can turn a visit to Teotihuacan into an unforgettable experience, leaving us with memories that will last a lifetime. And just like that, our hot air balloon journey over Teotihuacan came to an end, leaving us with a profound appreciation for the grandeur of this ancient city.
If you ever find yourself in Mexico, we highly recommend adding this magical experience to your bucket list. Check out our YouTube video, hit that like button, subscribe, and join us on more high-flying adventures! Until next time, happy travels!

Mexico City is only a three to four hour drive, and a 4.5 hour bus ride away. We love it there and go as often as we can. On this occasion, we met up with Paco de Santiago (https://www.instagram.com/conde.petatl), food tour leader with Culinary Backstreets, to explore sites less visited and to discover secret food gems of the Centro Historico, Mexico City's historical center.
We highly recommend reserving a tour with Culinary Backstreets. (not a sponsor). We have done tours with them in Lisbon and now in Mexico City. They offer tours throughout the world. Here's their website: https://culinarybackstreets.com The band playing Huastecan folk music at the beginning of the video is available for hire in Mexico City. They can be reached on WhatsApp at +55 3111 1953. Looking for a hotel in San Miguel de Allende? Or perhaps an AirBnB is what you need. Before committing to any of those choices, consider checking out Antigua Capilla Boutique Bed and Breakfast. We have been doing this for close to 15 years, and we know how to make your stay in San Miguel special. Check out our rooms here. See you soon! About 4.5 hours total Airport to Antigua Capilla Bed and Breakfast We're often asked two questions from guests regarding travel from the Mexico City Airport. The first question is “Is it safe?” and the second question is “How do we do it?” The answer to the first question is “yes.” The answer to the second question is a bit more complicated. You can rent a car and drive, you can hire a driver or you can take the bus. We prefer the bus. The easiest way to get to our Bed and Breakfast in San Miguel de Allende from the Mexico City Airport is by Primera Plus bus to the Queretaro Central Bus Station. These are deluxe air conditioned buses with restrooms. My favorite seat is the right window seat in the front row. They usually show a movie (Dubbed in Spanish) and offer a sandwich, soft drink and a cookie. At the time of this posting, tickets are $355.00 Pesos (about $21.00 Dollars,) and the trip takes about 3.5 hours. Buy a ticket at the booth just outside Terminal D (see our “Getting from MEX Customs to the Airport Bus Terminal” blog coming soon) Buses to Queretaro depart every half hour starting at about 8:30 AM and continue until 9 PM. From the Queretaro Central Bus Station, buy a prepaid taxi voucher at the taxi booth located inside the bus terminal. Walk outside to the taxi line and present your voucher to the attendant. (Important: Be sure to have the attendant ask the driver to show you his tire changing tools and inflated spare tire.) At the time of this posting, the cost is $500.00 Pesos (about $30 Dollars,) and the trip takes about 45 minutes. If you have a little time to kill and want to save about $350.00 Pesos, you can also catch another bus from Queretaro to San Miguel for about $40.00 Pesos. However, you might have to wait up to 2 hours before the bus leaves. It is a 2nd class bus, very “colorful” stopping at many villages along the way to San Miguel.
We look forward to seeing you at our San Miguel B&B. |
