Whenever we are in the mood for a tasty margarita, we head down to the square and order a couple of these refreshing drinks at La Posadita restaurant. Served in an oversized glass, this tamarind margarita served as a slushy or on the rocks has been a staple of theirs for many years, and it always hits the spot!
La Posadita is a great option for traditional Mexican dishes like enchiladas or posole.
Located on Cuna de Allende #13, San Miguel de Allende, right around the corner from the Parroquia.
We were informed back in January of this year that our humble San Miguel de Allende inn had been awarded the tripadvisor.com Travelers' Choice Award in the category of Best B&Bs and Inns - Mexico for the 2nd year in a row and for the 4th time is 6 years.
Yesterday, we received our award plaque, which we will proudly display in our office.
Thank you to all of our guests for your wonderful support!
This is our 2nd Travelers’ Choice Award in two years and our 4th in 6 years!
Less than 1% of all properties listed on Tripadvisor receive Travelers’ Choice Awards. We are truly honored have our Bed and Breakfast in San Miguel de Allende be a part of this very exclusive group!
In the 15th year of the awards, TripAdvisor has highlighted the world’s top properties based on the millions of reviews and opinions collected in a single year from travelers around the globe. Winners were identified in the categories of Top Hotels, Luxury, Bargain, Small, Service, B&Bs and Inns, Romance and Family. The hallmarks of Travelers’ Choice hotels winners are remarkable service, value and quality.
If you're wondering just how far we are to San Miguel de Allende's town square and main church, the "Jardín" and "Parroquia", as they are locally called, scroll down to see a google map with walking directions from Antigua Capilla Bed & Breakfast to the corner of the Jardín.
This route can take under 10 minutes if you're from New York City or our home town of San Francisco, but beware of a phenomenon known as "Mexican time". You will slow down to absorb the surroundings, chat with complete strangers, people watch, eat something from a food stand, walk through an open gate just to see what's on the other side, step into a church or 10 to marvel at the baroque architecture, and on and on. If you are afflicted, you might not make it to the Jardín until...mañana!
Here are a few points of interests along the route:
A great alternative to walking are the very inexpensive, safe and plentiful taxis. Flag one down anywhere in San Miguel or call them to pick you up at the B&B, and you’ll be taken to your destination in no time. Current taxi rates are $40 pesos for a flagged taxi and $50 pesos for a called taxi.
The Festival of Our Lord of the Conquest takes place every year on the first Friday in March and is one of the many festivals that lead up to Easter.
From dawn until dusk, indigenous people come to the main square known locally as “el Jardin” to perform a traditional dance and ceremony called “Conchero” in honor of “Christ of the Conquest”, one of the most revered statues in San Miguel de Allende’s Parroquia church, which was brought from Páztcuaro and represents the acceptance of Christ by Mexico’s native people. The dancers wear elaborate headdresses and colorful garments and dance to the hypnotic beat of base drums.
If you like color, movement and drumbeats, you cannot miss this one!
We love watching the hot air balloons float above San Miguel de Allende in the mornings as we sip our coffee. Today we decided to record some video of a lone balloon masterfully navigating the air currents above the city.
Later this afternoon we saw a facebook post by our friend Gretchen Kimball of Globo San Miguel, showing these pictures that she took from that very same balloon. We think we have one of the best views of San Miguel de Allende, but you really cannot beat the view from the sky. Check these shots out!

Last month we were informed that Antigua Capilla B&B is one of the best Bed and Breakfasts in Mexico. Antigua Capilla Bed and Breakfast made the list of Top 25 Bed and Breakfasts in Mexico for the third time in five years! The annual TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice awards honor the world’s best accommodations in various categories, as recognized by those who know them best – real travelers. TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice winners are based on millions of valuable reviews and opinions from travelers around the world. Less than 1% of all accommodations listed on TripAdvisor receive Travellers' Choice Awards, and we are one of them!
We are grateful that our customers have acknowledged the hard work and dedication to excellence that we and our team put into providing the best accommodations in San Miguel de Allende. This morning, we received our official plaque from TripAdvisor, which we will proudly display in our office. Here's to another great year!
We have some amazing people come though our doors at Antigua Capilla Bed and Breakfast. Robert Hajdu, for example, is a photographer with an incredible eye. We cannot tell you how many hundreds of times we have walked though this point on our terrace without really paying much attention to it. Until now, this was nothing more than a node that connects our rooftop terrace to the rest of the B&B. It was a way to get to our vista point, where you can enjoy the best views of the incredible sunsets of San Miguel de Allende. Thank you Robert for helping us see it in a new light!
